Diseases treated with TMSAddictions

Addiction is a mental illness. Its treatment is based primarily on addiction psychotherapy, which is an attempt to reach primary disorders. These are the cause why the patient looks for various substances to get intoxicated or "self-medicate."

Little by little, the addict's entire life focuses on acquiring and using substances that destroy mental health. It is definitely not possible to base addiction therapy solely on pharmacotherapy, which plays only a supporting role. Similarly, TMS - cannot replace one's work and professionally conducted psychotherapy, to which we encourage all patients.

We provide addiction psychotherapy at our Magwise Medical Center. Nevertheless, we can use TMS to help the brain reduce cravings for alcohol, cocaine, and nicotine.

In 2021, scientists from the University of Linköping (Sweden) conducted a very promising study on 51 alcohol addicts. The Swedes showed a significant reduction in the amount of alcohol consumed and a reduction in the intensity of alcohol craving due to TMS stimulation in the prefrontal areas.

Other researchers like Camprodon (2007) showed a reduction in cocaine craving after just two TMS sessions. Similarly, Politi (2008) - after 10 TMS sessions.

The smoking cessation aid is historically one of the first indications for TMS use. Since 2013, many studies and scientific reports have been on this subject. We present one of the last ones here.
